Robert F. Rothman, MD is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at New York Medical College, The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and Hofstra University Medical School. After graduating from the Combined Seven-Year Bachelor of Arts/Doctor of Medicine Program at Boston University in 1993, he entered his residency in Ophthalmology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Dr. Rothman completed his training in 1997 and entered a fellowship in Glaucoma at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. In 1998, he joined Drs. Robert Ritch and Jeffrey Liebmann in practice at New York Eye and Ear, where he pursued his research interests in surgical outcomes. From 2000 to the present, he has been a partner at Glaucoma Consultants of Long Island, where he maintains an active role in research, education and patient care activities.

Dr. Rothman is a residency instructor in glaucoma for the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, and the North Shore/ Long Island Jewish programs. He is a member of numerous local and national societies including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, of which he is a Diplomate, and the American Glaucoma Society, and maintains professional advisory panel positions for The Sturge-Weber Foundation and for the Tender Loving Care Foundation. He is currently the Secretary for the Long Island Ophthalmological Society and serves on the Executive Board of the Garden City Surgicenter. He is a past President of the Nassau Academy of Medicine, Ophthalmology Section.

Dr. Rothman currently spends the majority of his time in direct patient care. He focuses on adult and pediatric glaucoma care and utilizes the latest medical, laser and surgical techniques, including Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty, Baerveldt and Ahmed Glaucoma implant surgery, trabeculectomy both with and without the Express Shunt, Canaloplasty and Trabectome. He also performs small incision, sutureless cataract surgery with the option for implantation of the Crystalens accommodating intraocular lens and Toric lenses for astigmatism correction.
