Dr. Michael Sable, our surgical director, is a Brooklyn native, who grew up in the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood and attended Midwood High School. He went on to graduate from New York University and Stony Brook School of Medicine. He completed his residency in 1996 at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, where he served as chief resident. He went on to the prestigious anterior segment fellowship at the Moran Eye Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. He has been Board Certified since 1997. Dr. Sable now specializes in complex cataract and anterior segment surgery.

Dr. Sable is a Clinical Instructor for the North Shore / Long Island Jewish hospital residency program, and has been teaching residents surgical technique in the Operating Room for the past 19 years. He has been honored to receive the award of “Attending of the Year” at Long Island Jewish Medical Center for the past two decades. He is a consultant to major Ophthalmic Pharmaceutical companies, and lectures on the topics of peri-operative and operative surgical treatments related to cataracts.

His passion is bringing the highest level of surgical intervention for curing blindness from cataract to all patients, regardless of their access to quality healthcare. He does this through his work with residents in the clinic at Queens Hospital, and through his International Volunteer work. He is on the Board of Directors of A Promise to Peru, a not for profit organization bringing the highest quality eye surgery to the underprivileged patients of Peru and now extending into other areas in South America. He makes the annual wholly volunteer mission trip annually, where over 100 patients receive sight restorative surgery per trip. He is an avid sports fan, and still plays in competitive adult baseball leagues.
